Jennifer J. Wheeler

Jennifer J. Wheeler (formerly J. Jennifer Wood of Wood Law, P.C.) is dedicated to the practice of family law and school law with an emphasis on special needs concerns. A former teacher and the mother of three sons with autism, Ms. Wheeler represents families challenged by special needs in school disputes, such as IEP's and due process hearings. She also represents clients in family law matters, such as divorce and the allocation of parenting rights and responsibilities. Furthermore, Ms. Wheeler is a Guardian ad Litem for children in DuPage County, Kendall County, and Will County family law matters.
Ms. Wheeler is the appointed Chairperson for the Attorney General's Select Committee on Special Education, she serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Turning Pointe Autism Foundation in Naperville, and she is also featured as a recurring author for Chicago Parent Magazine. Additionally, Ms. Wheeler has written about special needs concerns in family law matters for the Illinois Bar Journal, the Newsletter for the Family Law Section of the Illinois State Bar Association, and the DuPage County Bar Association Brief Magazine. She is featured as an "Autism Champion" in the first and second editions of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Autism Spectrum Disorders: What Every Parent Needs to Know, and also From the Periphery: Real-Life Stories of Disability. She has presented on special needs matters and family law concerns for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE), the DuPage County Bar Association, and the Will County Bar Association.
In addition to receiving her Juris Doctor for the practice of law, Ms. Wheeler also earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Science in Education. Ms. Wheeler understands that it is important to work with an attorney who is competent in integrated areas, such as special needs, school and family law, because a special concern will change the face of nearly every aspect of education and family law matters, including divorce, child support, parenting time and responsibilities, school disputes, and related education concerns.
